Schmidt Issues Statement on OSU's 'Sex Week'
COLUMBUS – State Representative Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) today issued the following statement and sent the attached letter regarding “Sex Week” to President Johnson at the Ohio State University:
“I am disappointed to learn of the Ohio State University’s use of funds to promote one-sided, liberal issues and values during “Sex Week.” I am requesting an explanation from President Johnson in the following letter.”
Dr. Johnson,
It has come to my attention that the Ohio State University is hosting a “Sex Week,” which includes an event called “Valentine’s for Abortion Providers.” While I strongly defend the right for students to speak freely on a public campus, I am appalled at the University’s direct funding of events that encourage the killing of innocent, unborn babies.
It is never an act of love to purposefully kill somebody, let alone an unborn child. As you may know, I am pro-life across the board. All life is sacred, from conception to natural death. Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love and life.
Our tax dollars are supporting this school. Are the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies and the College of Social Work also supporting events that advance pro-life positions?
The University’s purpose is to help individuals broaden their views of the world, giving equal time to diverse viewpoints and equal opportunity for students to express their opinions and beliefs. I expect Ohio State is doing this.
Our forefathers believed in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We distinguish death when the heart beat stops, and we distinguish life when the heart beat begins. I strongly urge you to reconsider this activity.
I appreciate an opportunity to discuss this with you and I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Jean Schmidt
State Representative
