Callender Reappointed to Eighth Term as JCARR Chair
COLUMBUS – Representative Callender (R-Concord) announced Tuesday his reappointment as Chair of the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR). Representative Callender, who is entering his eighth and final term in the Ohio House of Representatives, has served as JCARR Chair all eight of his terms in the House.
JCARR was established in 1977 by the Ohio General Assembly to act as a legislative check on the rulemaking authority of the executive branch. Consisting of 10 members, three of the majority and two of the minority from each chamber, JCARR reviews all proposed new, amended, or rescinded rules from over 100 agencies. It is also responsible for overseeing the review of existing regulations through the five-year rule review process. During the 135th General Assembly, JCARR reviewed 9,196 rules and oversaw the implementation of the first two years of Senate Bill 9 (134th GA McColley/Roegner), which reduced government regulation by over 20%.
Representative Callender is joined by State Representatives Mathews (R- Lebanon), Willis (R-Springfield), Brennan (D-Parma) and Brown Piccolantonio (D-Gahanna). The Senate Delegation includes Senator Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) as Co-Chair and Senators Brenner (R-Delaware), Lang (R-West Chester), Craig (D-Columbus), and DeMora (D-Columbus).
“JCARR serves an important roll as the legislative check on the executive branch of government,” said Callender. “I am honored to be once again entrusted with protecting the people of the State of Ohio from government overreach and excessive bureaucracy.”
The first JCARR meeting of the 136th General Assembly will take place on January 28th.
