COLUMBUS—State Representative Jim Hoops (R-Napoleon) voted yesterday in support of House Bill 64, the “Senior Sportsmen Fairness Act”, and House Bill 13, legislation to designate “Roy Rogers Day” in Ohio. Both bills passed out of the Ohio House with unanimous support.

House Bill 64 aims to correct an oversight in discounts given to seniors for their hunting, fishing, fur trapping, and other sportsmen licenses. The Senior Sportsmen Fairness Act reduces the age of senior discounted licenses for outdoor recreation in Ohio from 66 to 65, aligning Ohio law with the eight other senior license discounts available to Ohioans.

“By making this small update to current law, we will be making a big impact for Ohioans who are 65 and want to pursue outdoor activities like hunting and fishing,” said Hoops. “Ohio has so many outdoor activities to enjoy, and we should encourage seniors to embrace that.”

House Bill 13 will designate November 5th as "Roy Rogers Day” in Ohio. Born on November 5, 1911, Roy Rogers, grew up in Portsmouth, Ohio and went on to have a historic career as an American singer, actor, television host, and rodeo performer.

“This legislation both honors an Ohio legend and encourages younger generations to work hard and pursue their dreams,” said Hoops.

Both pieces of legislation now move to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
