COLUMBUS—State Rep. Jim Hoops (R-Napoleon) is pleased to announce that House Bill 496, legislation to revise the law governing property taxes and county auditors, was recently signed into law.
A few key provisions of the legislation include:
- Removes requirement that county auditors must notify the county treasurer of any staff changes in the auditor’s office;
- Requires property tax refunds be refunded based on current tax rates, not the rates in effect when the tax was levied; and
- Revises the law on injured and destroyed manufacture homes by providing county auditors authority to complete the form for injured and destroyed manufactured homes on behalf of a property owner.
“This legislation makes commonsense changes to benefit our local governments and property owners,” said Hoops.
House Bill 496 will take effect on April 8, 2025.
