State Rep. Gary Click (R-Vickery) issued the following statement on the governor’s veto of Senate Bill 375:

“While I continue to agree with Governor DeWine’s desire to ensure the safety of all Ohioans as we battle the COVID-19 crisis, I continue to advocate for appropriate checks and balances in our state government. For this reason, I am disappointed that Governor DeWine vetoed a good bill that created an effective working group including appointees from himself, the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Association of Health Commissioners, the Ohio Farm Bureau, the Ohio Fair Managers Association, and many more vested stakeholders.

“Senate Bill 375 was more than the voiding of an order from the Director of Health, it was a call to the governor to be more inclusive and to open the door to the Legislature and stakeholders who care about Ohio’s safety and future equally with him. It is in the best interest of each of these stakeholders to operate a safe, effective and healthy county fair. We all share the same goals.

“Because we prefer to work with the governor rather than against the governor, I will continue to advocate for legislation that promotes an appropriate measure of checks and balances over the course of the 134th General Assembly.  The people of Ohio deserve to have their voices heard on these consequential issues.”
