Click Announces House Bill 324 Passes Ohio House Health Committee
COLUMBUS – State Representative Gary Click (R-Vickery) Tuesday announced that House Bill 324 passed the Ohio House of Representatives Health Committee with a vote of 14-1.
This Legislation ensures that no one has to die alone by setting a safe standard of hospital visitation during a pandemic.
“I'm thrilled to see this bill pass through the Health Committee with such strong bipartisan support. This demonstrates that we can achieve positive outcomes for our constituents when we work together. Chairman Lipps has provided outstanding leadership and members on both sides of the aisle like Ranking Member Liston realize that we must achieve a reasonable balance between patients' rights and the safety of our healthcare heroes,” said Click.
This legislation was drafted in honor of two wonderful women, Shirley and Wilma, who died without the dignity that they deserved. Shirley was denied the benefit of pastoral care as was Wilma who was additionally denied the benefit of having her daughter at her side. However, this bill is not just about them. This is a sad story that has been told over and over again through tearstained eyes and from broken hearts. Shirley and Wilma represent a vast number of people who deserve so much more than what they received.
“On day one, Shirley and Wilma's Law will begin making a difference. The rights denied to Shirley and Wilma will be protected for families in crisis. I look forward to seeing the senate take up this bill and delivering it to Governor DeWine for his signature soon,” added Click.
