COLUMBUS - State Rep. Gary Click, R-Vickery, and the Ohio House honored Dwight Wise, former state representative of the 85th Ohio House District, on the House floor Wednesday.

Click presented a resolution detailing Wise’s lifetime of accomplishments.

Wise served the region of Sandusky County through multiple public official roles and was a legislator in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1982-1994.

He died in December at the age of 90.

“I express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dwight Wise. He left such a respectable impression on all those he met,” said Click in a news release. “He honorably served the several offices he held as he contributed to our surrounding communities. I believe his sincerity and love for our state is why he made such an effective public servant – I commend him on his respectable and fulfilling life as his legacy lives on within our state as we recognize him with this resolution.”

Wise, a lifelong Jackson Township farmer, also served as a charter member of the Terra Technical College Board of Trustees (now Terra State Community College) from 1969 to 1972 and was instrumental in the founding of Vanguard Vocational School as a member of the Vanguard Vocational Board from 1976 to 1981.

In the Ohio House, Wise advanced to become chairman of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

According to the House resolution, during his political career, Wise promoted collective bargaining and mandatory arbitration for teachers, and he was instrumental in the success of such projects as securing funds for the Water Quality Lab at Heidelberg College and the expansion of Capital Aluminum, increasing business activity through the construction of the Fifth Street exit on the bypass in Sandusky County, expanding Ohio 18 in Seneca County, and preserving the Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area near Vickery.

Click invited the Wise family to attend the moment during the House session as they received the resolution in his honor.

His children in attendance included Sandra Wise, Geary Wise, and Gail Marshall along with his sister Sue Harner.

Sandra Wise spoke on the House floor to honor her father.

“Dad was very, very proud and honored to be elected into this House and to serve his district,” she said. “He just felt so privileged.”

“Former Representative Wise’s advice to me was to focus on the constituents and put people first. It is my sincere hope and desire that I can honor his legacy by following that counsel,” Click added.
