State Rep. Gail Pavliga (R-Portage County) recently visited Hope Town Recovery Housing located in Windham, Ohio in Portage County. The representative met with several members of their staff and was appreciative of the opportunity.

“I visited the location in Windham for Hope Town Recovery to house and provide recovery for those struggling with drug addiction in Portage County,” said Pavliga. “Thanks to Ted St John, CEO of Hope Village, Ashley Holt, PCC Program Director, Scott Short, Hope Town Recovery Housing Board Member for your vision and tireless work helping those in recovery.”

Along with this tour at the recovery facility, Pavliga has continued her support for those in recovery and/or facing drug addictions directly within the Ohio House; just last month, Pavliga introduced and testified on House Bill 193, which requires all Schedule II prescriptions to be done electronically, except under certain circumstances.

The goal is to help reduce situations where individuals try to obtain Schedule II drugs from pharmacies with stolen or fraudulent scripts. Pavliga has mentioned that they’re working with organizations, such as the Ohio State Medical Association, on specifics surrounding the bill.

The legislation has been introduced as several reports have indicated a significant rise in opioid deaths in Ohio with the likely cause being COVID-19, according to the American Medical Association.

House Bill 193 has currently had one committee hearing late last month in the Ohio House Health Committee.
