Pavliga Announces More than $3.88 Million in Funding for Portage County
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Gail Pavliga (R-Portage County) announced Thursday that more than $3.88 million has been awarded to projects in Portage County, including the construction of a new barrack at Camp James A. Garfield, renovations at the Kent State University Kent campus, and new multi-use trails. The State Controlling Board approved the measures at a meeting earlier this week.
“These funds will not only build new housing for our servicemen and women, enhance security, and improve the learning environment for students at Kent State, but also help facilitate economic growth and invest in our parks here in Portage County,” said Pavliga.
The approved items for Portage County include:
- $2,744,519 for the design and construction of barracks for soldiers in the existing cantonment area at Camp James A Garfield in Portage County.
- $1,000,000 to assist in the financing construction of a new 33,000-square-foot building in Tallmadge to facilitate business growth and employment.
- $47,250 for the construction of 30 miles of new multi-use trails.
- $43,900 for the Kent Campus ADA Improvements Phase II project.
- $31,500 to purchase and install security equipment on KSU campuses.
- $16,625 for renovations to the second floor of the Twin Center at KSU.
The next State Controlling Board meeting is scheduled for May 6, 2024.
