Rep. White Promotes Grant for Removal of Hazardous Materials Training Grant
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Erika White (D-Springfield Township) today announced that the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has opened the application period for the hazardous materials training grants. Educational institutions and local governments across the state are awarded grants to provide training on how to best respond to incidents involving hazardous materials.
“I am pleased to share that the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has opened its grant application process for local governments and educational institutions. These training grants are a significant opportunity for us to continue building essential skills within our community as well as offer support for neighboring areas during times of crisis. Investing in our workforce, which consists of trained professionals who can respond effectively, is vital to ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities.
I encourage every educational organization and local government in my district to consider applying for this grant. The funding offered through the PUCO grants helps awardees provide training on:
- Courses involving hazardous materials training on various levels, including first response awareness, operations and technician, highway response specialist, incident command and tank car specialist;
- Intermodal hazardous materials training;
- Incident response exercise;¿
- Rail hazardous materials response training, including rail/highway incident response training; and¿
- Hazardous materials planning and survey studies.¿
The 2025 grants application period closes on April 30, 2025.
