Rep. White, Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Hold Juneteenth¿Press Conference on Black Liberation, Legislation Action ¿
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Erika White (D-Springfield Township) alongside fellow members of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus (OLBC) today held a press conference honoring Juneteenth and reminding Ohio Black history is American History.¿
“Centuries of systemic discrimination embedded in public policy, financial practices, and societal norms have severely restricted wealth accumulation in Black communities. It is imperative that we confront these deep-rooted inequalities head-on. To effect meaningful change, we must embark on bold structural reforms, which necessitate solidifying our partnerships with labor organizations and community advocates.
Legislatively, along with those who passionately confront wealth disparities, we can shorten the wealth gap and ignite in the fight for a $15 minimum wage. This movement serves as a transformative opportunity to elevate our entire community, including those who may never have the chance to attain financial independence without a living wage. It is a compelling call to action, urging us to turn dreams of economic justice into a reality regardless of circumstances,” said Rep. White.
Even as the OLBC ¿and Ohio House Democratic Caucus¿celebrated the end of slavery in the United States, far too many Ohioans remain shackled by unjust policies that keep families poor, children sick, and communities unsafe. From redlining and food deserts to mass incarceration and voter suppression, the fight for true freedom and justice is far from over
