COLUMBUS — Assistant Minority Whip Desiree Tims (D-Dayton) and Assistant Minority Leader Phil Robinson (D-Solon) recently introduced House Bill (HB) 545, the School Busing Improvement Act, to ensure public school students are prioritized in school busing. HB 545 is assigned to the House Education Committee and will receive its first hearing on Wednesday, February 4th at 9:45 am where Rep. Tims and Rep. Robinson will provide sponsor testimony.

“The School Busing Improvement Act is vital to easing a burden felt throughout Ohio’s public schools” said Rep. Tims. “Public school students should not be left to figure out how they will get to school while private and charter school students are prioritized in busing. This is exactly what is happening to Dayton Public School students, and as a result, DPS students are falling behind and chronic absenteeism is growing. Public school students should be the priority when it comes to public school buses. It is common sense.”

Dayton Public Schools’ busing situation continues to be in flux at the expense of Dayton’s public school students. Rep. Tims hopes that members of the Education Committee will listen to her testimony with the best interest of Ohio’s public school students in mind and support this commonsense legislation.
