Rep. Tims Announces $4.3M for NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Dayton
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Desiree Tims (D-Dayton) today issued the following statement after the Ohio Controlling Board approved key funding requests to support emergency operations and security for the 2025 North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Parliamentary Assembly, which will take place in Dayton from May 21 – May 26, 2025:
“With the approval of these crucial funding measures, Dayton is fully prepared to host the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and ensure the safety and security of both our residents and the international dignitaries attending the event. This is a historic opportunity for our city, and I am proud to support the funding that will provide necessary resources to our local law enforcement, fire services, emergency management teams, and public works,” said Rep. Tims.
The Controlling Board has approved the following funding measures:
- $2.8M will go to the city of Dayton to reimburse costs incurred for policing, fire, public works and equipment expenses.
- $1.3M to provide security for the event to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP)
- $100K for county emergency operations center activation costs to Montgomery County; and
- $100K for state emergency operations center activation costs to Ohio Emergency Management Agency (Ohio EMA).
These approvals ensure that local and state agencies have the necessary funding to cover security and emergency operations, including the activation of emergency operations centers, police, fire, and public works personnel. Funds will be disbursed on a rolling reimbursement basis to cover expenses incurred during the event.
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly, a key forum connecting NATO with the parliaments and governing bodies of its member nations, will bring together 281 parliamentarians from 32 countries and 88 delegates from associate members and observers. The event is expected to draw significant international attention and requires substantial security and emergency preparedness to protect both attendees and the local community.
