Representative Troy is the new Ranking Member of Ways and Means Committee, amongst other assignments
COLUMBUS – State Representative Daniel Troy (D-Willowick) today announced his committee assignments for the 135th (2023 – 2024) General Assembly, including being named the Ranking Member of two key panels.
Troy will serve as the Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which primarily processes all legislation dealing with taxation and state government revenue.
“As a former chair of this important committee during my previous time in the Legislature, I hope to achieve a long overdue update of Ohio’s Homestead Exemption law to secure greater property tax relief for our seniors on fixed incomes, as well as make Ohio’s property tax system simpler, fairer and less burdensome to property owners,” Troy stated.
Troy was also named as a key member of the powerful House Finance and Appropriations Committee, which will write and recommend the provisions of the state’s two year budget bill this year and the state’s capital expenditure bill next year. He will serve as the Ranking Member of the Agricultural, Development and Natural Resources Subcommittee of the Finance and Appropriations Committee which will hear and study the budget requests of the Departments of Agriculture, Development, and Natural Resources and the Ohio Protection Agency. Representative Troy believes that this will allow him greater influence and oversight of protecting our waterways and Lake Erie with investments in Ohio’s H2Ohio Program, which is a combined partnership effort of the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Ohio EPA.
“Enactment of the state budget is the most important function of the Legislature, as it sets and defines our public policy priorities for the next two years for the common good of the citizens of Ohio. I am glad to have been chosen to be on the front line of that important task,” Representative Troy stated.
He will also serve as a member of 3 other standing committees in the Ohio House. Included in these are the State and Local Government Committee and the new Armed Services Committee.
“As a former municipal and county elected official, I hope that the experience and knowledge acquired in those positions will help in addressing the matters that come before the State and Local Government Committee, and, as a U.S. Army veteran, I look forward to working on issues that serve the interests of my fellow veterans as a member of this new committee,” Representative Troy said.
Troy will also continue to serve on the House Public Utilities Committee, where he hopes to concentrate on protecting the interests of Ohio consumers and their energy needs.
