Isaacsohn Votes NO on SB 1; Rejects Republican Efforts to Wage Campus Culture Wars Instead of Investing in Economic Opportunity
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Dani Isaacsohn (D-Cincinnati) today responded to the House passage of Senate Bill (SB) 1:
“At a time of rising prices and the risk of recession, Republicans in Columbus are using their power to wage culture wars to attack students, professors, labor rights, and the very principle that our diversity is a strength," said Rep. Isaacsohn. "Let's be clear, SB 1 is about censorship and division. I am proud to advocate alongside Ohio’s students in opposition to this bill and remain steadfast in the fight for the future of the next generation of Ohioans."
In trying to solve problems that do not exist, SB 1 creates new issues for institutions of higher education in the state. Should SB 1 be enacted, ramifications will include increased administrative costs, stifled free speech and innovation, and will fundamentally undermine the opportunity for Ohio’s students to reach their full potential.
SB 1 was voted out of the Ohio House with a 58-34 vote and now heads to the Senate for concurrence.
