Resolution to Address Rail Safety Passes Ohio House
COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio House of Representatives today passed House Resolution 33, which urges Congress to address rail safety in Ohio, announced State Rep. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron).
This legislation came to fruition as a result of the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. The train was carrying hazardous materials at the time of derailment.
“We have a responsibility to address evident railroad safety issues,” said Swearingen. “The impact of the train derailment in East Palestine has been devastating for the community and the state of Ohio as whole.”
The resolution urges Congress to pass legislation requiring railroad companies to inform local and state governments when trains are carrying potentially hazardous materials through their area.
Swearingen voted in favor of the resolution during House Session.
