Ohio House Passes Bills to Designate Memorial Highways, Update Ohio SORN Laws
COLUMBUS – The Ohio House of Representatives today passed House Bill 380, legislation that will name twenty-nine roads and bridges throughout Ohio, announced State Rep. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron).
Included in the bill are two pieces of legislation spearheaded by Swearingen that will designate two memorial highways in honor of individuals who impacted the 89th House district.
House Bill 318 will designate the portion of State Route 269 immediately north and south of the Village of Castalia as Scott G. Gast Memorial Highway.
“Scott was a pillar of the local community, and it is my belief he should be honored not just for his own sake but as an inspiration and reminder for kids and young adults that one can both energetically follow their passions while being professionally accomplished,” said Swearingen.
House Bill 335 will designate a portion of State Route 163 in Ottawa County as Ottawa County Veterans Memorial Highway.
“Renaming this highway helps keep the memories and sacrifices of these brave men and women alive in the hearts and minds of not only their many families, but also as a general testament to the fortitude of Ohioans as a whole,” said Swearingen.
The Ohio House of Representatives today also passed House Bill 289 sponsored by Swearingen. This legislation aims to make Ohio communities safer by updating Ohio’s Sex Offender Registration and Notification (SORN) laws.
“This legislation ensures that all who have violated the community’s trust receive equal justice,” said Swearingen. “We have a responsibility to make sure those who take advantage of the most vulnerable are held accountable.”
Both pieces of legislation now head to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
