Ohio Governor Signs Bills to Designate Ottawa County Veterans Memorial Highway, Update Ohio SORN Laws
COLUMBUS—Ohio Governor Mike DeWine yesterday signed House Bill 81 into Ohio law, announced State Rep. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron). Incorporated into the bill are two measures sponsored by Swearingen.
First, House Bill 335 will designate a portion of State Route 163 in Ottawa County as Ottawa County Veterans Memorial Highway.
“Renaming this highway is a small way to honor the great legacies of bravery and selflessness these men and women left behind,” said Swearingen. “I hope this highway serves as a reminder of their sacrifices and as a general testament to the fortitude of Ohioans as a whole.”
The second measure sponsored by Swearingen is House Bill 289, which aims to protect Ohio communities by updating Ohio’s Sex Offender Registration and Notification (SORN) laws.
“I am committed to fighting for policy that makes our communities safer and stronger,” said Swearingen. “This legislation will make sure those who take advantage of the most vulnerable are held accountable.”
House Bill 81 will take effect in 90 days.
