House Committee Begins Hearings on Bill to Require Employer Use of E-Verify Program
COLUMBUS – State Rep. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron) today provided sponsor testimony before the House Commerce and Labor Committee on House Bill 327, which will require employers to use the E-Verify program, a free internet-based program to help employers verify work authorization of new hires.
The E-Verify program is a free internet-based program to help employers verify work authorization of new hires, streamlining verification of new employees’ work permits, visas, and citizenship within 3-5 seconds.
“This legislation uplifts the Ohio worker by ensuring that workers who are in this country illegally will not obtain jobs in Ohio,” said Swearingen. “Cheating the system will not be tolerated here in Ohio.”
The bill awaits further consideration by the House Commerce and Labor Committee.
