House Committee Begins Hearings on Bill to Designate Cpl. Robert Dockstader Memorial Highway
COLUMBUS – The House Transportation Committee Tuesday began hearings on House Bill 234, legislation to designate a portion of State Route 2 in Ottawa County as Cpl. Robert Dockstader Memorial Highway, announced bill sponsor, State Rep. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron).
Corporal Dockstader, a combat veteran from Port Clinton, served two tours, the first from 1989-1993 and the second from 2005-2006. He served as a platoon radio operator and a squad leader over the course of his career.
“This legislation, while a small gesture, will hopefully honor Corporal Dockstader, his family, and friends,” said Swearingen during sponsor testimony. “We must bring attention to those Americans who demonstrate virtue and put themselves in harm’s way, so that others may live safely and comfortably.”
Corporal Dockstader was described by a former colleague as a man of “expertise, calm, with an unflappable demeanor under duress.”
House Bill 234 awaits further consideration from the House Transportation Committee.
