CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A portion of I-71 in Hamilton County will be memorialized for a Cincinnati Police officer who was killed in the line of duty.
The change was proposed by State Rep. Cindy Abrams (R-Harrison) and recently passed in the Ohio House and Senate.
Now, I-71 North and South between Martin Luther King Drive and Eden Park Drive is being designated “Patrolman David L. Cole Memorial Highway."
Patrolman Cole was only 24 when he was killed in 1974 while responding to a burglary near Florence Avenue.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, who sparked the idea for the legislation, his parents, and his four siblings.
The measure will now go to the governor's desk to be signed.
