Republicans Prioritize Censorship, Discrimination Over Freedom, Economic Growth with SB 1's Passage
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Christine Cockley (D-Columbus) today responded to the House passage of Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Higher Education Destruction Act:
“At The Ohio State University, I didn’t just learn public policy and political science; I learned to think critically and engage with perspectives different from my own. OSU’s commitment to inclusion and equality, and the freedom to ask questions, prepared me to serve as a state legislator. SB 1 undermines those values by banning diversity, equity, and inclusion, stripping faculty of collective bargaining rights, and stifling open discussion in our public institutions,” said Rep. Cockley. “As a two-time OSU graduate, it’s heartbreaking to see this bill pass. I fear for the future of Ohio’s students, instructors, and professionals.”
In trying to solve problems that do not exist, SB 1 creates new issues that will increase costs, stifle growth, and prevent Ohio’s young adults from reaching their full potential.
