COLUMBUS —State Reps. Christine Cockley (D-Columbus) and Jodi Salvo (R-Bolivar) Tuesday introduced bipartisan legislation to expand Ohio's wine discount laws. Under current law, retail liquor permit holders can offer a 10% discount on purchases of six to 12 bottles of alcoholic wine. The proposed bill would amend this provision to extend the same 10% discount to non-alcoholic (NA) and dealcoholized wines in a 6 to 12 bottle purchase.

“This bill gives Ohioans who are looking to cut back on alcohol consumption, or simply prefer non-alcoholic options, the same benefits and choices they would have with traditional wines,” said Rep. Cockley. “It’s a step forward in modernizing our alcohol laws and reflecting the growing demand for diverse, responsible beverage options.”

As more Ohioans adopt lifestyle choices such as ‘Dry January’ and moderation, and make lasting changes to their alcohol consumption habits, this legislation aims to update Ohio’s wine discount policy to reflect the evolving beverage landscape and enable businesses to better meet the needs of today’s consumers.

“I’m proud to join Rep. Cockley in sponsoring this bill because it recognizes that people choose not to drink alcohol for many reasons- whether they’re in recovery, serving as a designated driver, or simply prefer a non-alcohol option. This legislation would ensure that everyone has access to quality beverage options that support their health, and lifestyle goals,” said Rep. Salvo.

The bill has garnered strong bipartisan support, with 16 co-sponsors from both parties. It is now awaiting assignment to a House committee.
