Rep. Thomas Secures Over $1M for Behavioral Health Infrastructure and Supportive Housing in Hamilton County

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) today announced that the Ohio Controlling Board has approved more than $1M in funding to support critical infrastructure improvements and behavioral health housing projects in Hamilton County.
“This funding represents a meaningful investment in both our healthcare infrastructure and the long-term stability of individuals in our diverse community,” said Rep. Thomas. “By improving conditions at Summit Behavioral Healthcare and expanding supportive housing options, we are taking important steps toward better outcomes for Ohioans facing mental health challenges.”
The approved funding includes $48K for infrastructure renovations at Summit Behavioral Healthcare in Cincinnati. These funds will support the replacement of patient bedroom furniture, improving safety, comfort, and overall conditions for patients receiving care.
In addition, $1M has been approved for a community behavioral health initiative through the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. This funding will support the renovation of 18 permanent supportive housing units in Cincinnati through Excel Development Company, Inc., expanding access to stable housing for individuals receiving behavioral health services.
The infrastructure funding was previously approved for release and will now provide the Department of Health with the authority to proceed with necessary upgrades. The supportive housing project reflects the state’s continued commitment to strengthening community-based behavioral health services and addressing housing needs as a critical component of care.
