Rep. Thomas Announces Major Investments in Biomedical Research & Innovation for Cincinnati
COLUMBUS - State Rep. Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) today announced that the Ohio Controlling Board has approved several significant funding opportunities aimed at advancing biomedical research and innovation in the Cincinnati region. These investments are designed to support groundbreaking research, foster new technologies, and contribute to the region’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation in healthcare.
"These investments reflect our commitment to supporting the next generation of biomedical advancements and fostering the growth of innovative technologies that can improve lives," said Rep. Thomas. "Cincinnati is home to a wealth of talent and groundbreaking research, and we are proud to play a role in supporting these organizations as they lead the charge in improving healthcare and driving economic growth in the region."
One of these items is an allocation of $5M to the Cincinnati Children's Pre-Seed Fund. This investment will allow for the acceleration and the development of early-stage biomedical technologies. This funding will accelerate the development of early-stage biomedical technologies, supporting the commercialization of cutting-edge innovations emerging from Cincinnati Children's research efforts. The investment aims to bring transformative solutions to pediatric care and help shape the future of medicine.
Additionally, other items approved by the Controlling Board include:
- $250k to Cincinnati Children’s for technology research.
- $500k to University of Cincinnati Venture Lab to accelerate UC-owned tech into new ventures.
- $67K to University of Cincinnati RAPIDS grant - lab equipment purchase.
