Reps. Sweeney and Miranda Stress Importance of Ohio Anti-Corruption Act Following Householder Guilty Verdict
COLUMBUS— State Reps. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Westlake) and Jessica E. Miranda (D-Forest Park) today emphasized the need to act swiftly on the Ohio Anti-Corruption Act following the conviction of former Ohio House Republican Speaker Larry Householder.
“Today, the people’s faith in the legal system was upheld. But our state laws remain too weak to stop corrupt, uncontrolled spending by dark money groups who want to keep buying elected officials and legislation to enrich themselves,” said Rep. Sweeney. “Ohio needs and deserves stronger anti-corruption laws. That’s why we’re calling for bipartisan support of the Ohio Anti-Corruption Act– to stop corruption in its tracks and end the outsized influence of secret interests with secret agendas in Ohio’s elections.”
“Justice was served today and it was made clear that no matter who you think you are or how powerful you think you are, when you break the law, you will be held accountable,” said Rep. Miranda. “The fight is not over. We all have a responsibility to take a stand against corrupt, dark money groups that put corporate interests over Ohioans’ interests. We will put an end to secret campaign cash that lets a rich and powerful few buy influence and elections in Ohio.”
Reps. Sweeney and Miranda’s request for co-sponsors to all members of the Ohio House of Representatives on the Ohio Anti-Corruption Act will close Thursday evening at the end of business hours.
