Rep. Sweeney announces state funds for cleanup of abandoned gas station in Brook Park
State Rep. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Cleveland) announced today the release of $390,000 in state funding to clean up an abandoned gas station in Brook Park.
“I am encouraged that state dollars will be reinvested in our community to help combat urban decay, which imposes a burden not only on our environment, but also on our local economy and small businesses,” said Rep. Sweeney. “I am confident these funds will reduce that burden and make Brook Park a cleaner, more sustainable place to live.”
The funds will help remediate the abandoned gas station at 6286 Engle Road. According to the Development Services Agency’s Office of Community Development, the City of Brook Park will receive a total of $432,000, including funds from previous grants, to remove petroleum-contaminated soil and purify the groundwater in order to reclaim the land for use by local businesses.
