State Representatives Gary Click (R-Vickery) and Brian Lorenz (R-Powell) recently introduced legislation, "Keith’s Law", aimed at enhancing first responders’ ability to assist individuals with special needs during emergencies.

Keith’s Law would enhance a current statewide database for special health needs information voluntarily provided by individuals with special needs or their guardians in advance of a crisis. This database would provide first responders with essential details of an individual’s critical health needs when dispatched to provide emergency assistance, ensuring the responders are better prepared to provide potentially life-saving assistance to the person in need.

“Providing the necessary tools for our first responders to help Ohioans with special needs during a crisis is vital,” said Representative Click. “This statewide database would be widely accessible to all Ohioans and carries the advantage of extending responsiveness across the state without being limited by the boundaries of various patchwork communities.”

“It’s essential to our communities that we prepare our first responders to help any Ohioan in an emergency,” said Representative Lorenz. “I firmly believe this legislation will help all first responders in our state and I hope my fellow colleagues will join me in support.”

The bill awaits a number and committee assignment.
