State Representative Brian Lorenz (R-Powell) today announced that the Ohio House of Representatives passed legislation he jointly sponsored that is designed to encourage men to prioritize their health through two new statewide designations: June as “Male Wellness Month” and the third Monday in June as “Take Your Dad to the Doctor and Dentist Day” (DAD Day).

This bipartisan initiative aims to encourage men to prioritize their health through routine doctor visits, mental health screenings, and dental care. House Bill 207 also calls on the Ohio Department of Health to create a promotional poster for boards of health to raise awareness and support participation.

“We want Male Wellness Month to serve as a reminder, not just for men, but for families, employers, and healthcare providers, that wellness isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity,” said Rep. Lorenz. “Encouraging healthy habits, regular checkups, mental health awareness, and open conversations can save lives.”

Key Provisions of the Legislation:

  • Designates June as “Male Wellness Month” to promote prostate exams, colonoscopies, and mental health screenings among men.
  • Designates the third Monday of June as “Take Your Dad to the Doctor and Dentist Day” (“DAD Day”).

Studies consistently show that men are less likely than women to seek medical help. According to the CDC, the leading causes of death among males—heart disease and cancer—can often be managed or treated when detected early.

By promoting conversations around male wellness and encouraging preventative care, the bill aims to improve long-term health outcomes for Ohio’s male population and inspire a shift in how men approach their healthcare.
