COLUMBUS— State Rep. Bob Peterson (R-Sabina) announced that four local communities will receive an Ohio BUILDS (Broadband, Utilities, and Infrastructure for Local Development Success) Water Infrastructure Grant.

The recipients are as follows:

  • The village of Bloomingburg, located in Fayette County, will receive a $218,350 grant for engineering design services and fees to replace the village’s water treatment plant.
  • The village of Piketon, located in Pike County, will receive more than $2 million to construct a new wastewater treatment plant. The new facility will include influent screening, a new pumping station, biological treatment process tanks, and effluent disinfection.
  • The city of Washington Court House, located in Fayette County, will receive a $25,000 design grant to replace more than 1,000 linear feet of water main, seven fire hydrants, and 92 service laterals.
  • The city of Waverly, located in Pike County, will receive $790,000 to construct a new sanitary sewer pumping station.

“Improving and replacing our water infrastructure is a crucial investment for the future of our communities,” said Peterson. “Making these changes improves community health and takes financial burdens off of local leaders to fund these necessary but costly projects.”

During the fifth round of allocations, the Ohio BUILDS Program awarded a total of $135 million that will fund infrastructure projects throughout 64 Ohio counties.

The Ohio BUILDS water infrastructure program is a continuation of the H2Ohio initiative launched in 2019. The Ohio House of Representatives last month passed the final version of the State Operating Budget for fiscal years 2024-25, which includes a $60 million investment each fiscal year into H2Ohio to support water quality efforts across the state.
