Representative Roemer Presents House Resolution to Ms. Wheelchair Northern USA, Joci Scott
State Rep. Bill Roemer (R-Richfield) today honored Joci Scott at the Ohio Statehouse for being named the 2020 Ms. Wheelchair Northern USA. The Ms. Wheelchair USA program, founded in northeast Ohio, is a nationwide pageant recognizing the achievements, service, and advocacy efforts of women with disabilities across the country.
“It was an honor to meet Joci and have her to the Statehouse this morning,” said Roemer. “I am deeply impressed with her dedication to serving those around her, and all she has accomplished over the last year. We are definitely proud to have her in Ohio, and I’m looking forward to seeing her do more great things for people with disabilities in our communities.”
Scott, a Revere High School graduate and now a senior at The Ohio State University, sustained a spinal cord injury in a plane crash in 2019. Since then, she has been fiercely dedicated to advocacy for individuals with disabilities, and she won the Ms. Wheelchair Northern USA title earlier this year as a result.
“I am so thankful to Representative Roemer and the Ohio House of Representatives for honoring me with this resolution,” said Scott. “The Ms. Wheelchair USA program has allowed me to start raising awareness and making change in the community for people with disabilities, and I hope that as a state, we can fight together for a more accessible and inclusive Ohio.”
Scott was presented with a copy of House Resolution 359, which recognizes her achievements and service. It was adopted by the Ohio House of Representatives in September.
