Two Ohio state representatives introduced legislation to protect sports officials from assault.
Reps. Joe Miller, D-Amherst, and Rep. Bill Roemer, R-Richfield, announced legislation to increase penalties for assaulting a referee on the job or in retaliation for a prior incident in line with other penalties for assaulting teachers or other staff members.
The legislation previously was introduced in the 133rd General Assembly and was passed out of the House in November.
