COLUMBUS — State Rep. Ashley Bryant Bailey (D-Cincinnati) today announced the approval of $57,990 in state funding through the Ohio Controlling Board to support the assessment and cleanup of an abandoned gas station site in Cincinnati's District 26.

The funding, awarded through the Abandoned Gas Station Cleanup Grant Program, will support environmental remediation work at a former gas station located at 1931 Seymour Avenue. The project is being led by the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority and will address underground storage tank contamination that has long posed environmental and redevelopment barriers.

"This investment is about protecting public health, cleaning up legacy pollution, and preparing neighborhoods for responsible redevelopment," said Rep. Bryant Bailey. "Abandoned and contaminated sites hold communities back. By addressing these issues head-on, we are creating safer conditions for residents and opening the door for future economic growth."

The approved funding includes:

  • $22,640 for site assessment, including sampling and environmental evaluation; and
  • $35,350 for cleanup activities, supporting remediation work tied to gas contamination from underground tanks.

The property is part of a broader redevelopment vision for the surrounding area, with plans calling for mixed-use development that could include housing, commercial space, and neighborhood-serving amenities once environmental barriers are addressed.
