Ohio House Passes Ohio Homeowners Relief Act
COLUMBUS— The Ohio House of Representatives passed the Ohio Homeowners Relief Act, House Bill 187, announced bill sponsor State Rep Adam Bird (R-New Richmond).
The legislation will require the Tax Commissioner to work alongside local elected officials and weigh the past three years of a county’s property values to determine property tax.
“Inflationary pressures have affected the real estate residential market,” said Bird. “In my home county of Clermont, the Commissioner has recommended a 43% property value increase in one year. We need the Ohio Homeowners Relief Act so property taxes will be based on a three-year average to provide relief to Ohioans.”
This legislative change comes as a result of recent increases in property valuations throughout several Ohio counties. Butler and Clermont counties are among 11 Ohio counties where the tax commissioner is recommending a 43% increase in property values and a 110% increase for farmland.
House Bill 187 now heads to the Senate for further consideration.
