State Representative Tim Ginter (R-Salem) today announced the ceremony to dedicate the Corporal William F. Bratt Memorial Highway. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 20th at 11 a.m., at the Wellsville Gazebo near the VFW (359 Main Street, Wellsville, Ohio 43968).

"Corporal Bratt is truly worthy of this honor,” said Rep. Ginter. “The unimaginable horrors he suffered on behalf of our country is a representation of the price paid by untold numbers of our veterans for the freedom we enjoy today."

Corporal Bratt was a highly regarded World War II veteran from the 5th Ohio House District. He became a POW following the Bataan Peninsula surrender, completed the 65-mile trip known as the “Bataan Death March” and then survived to become a Purple Heart recipient, husband, father and avid community volunteer.

Following his return to America, Corporal Bratt was honorably discharged from the service. Throughout his lifetime, Corporal Bratt was active in passing on his survival skills through education and volunteerism within his community.

The legislation establishing the highway designation was Substitute Senate Bill 182, which became effective on August 5th. The bill specifically designates a portion of State Route 7, within Columbiana County, as the “Corporal William F. Bratt Memorial Highway.”
