State Rep. Robert Sprague Encourages Feedback on Ohio's Learning Standards
State Representative Robert Sprague (R-Findlay) today announced that he is encouraging constituents of the 83rd Ohio House District, particularly parents, to provide feedback to the Ohio Department of Education on Ohio’s current learning standards.
The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) recently announced a plan to review the standards and update them, if proven necessary. Before undergoing the review process, however, ODE is asking parents to review the English language arts and math standards by visiting www.ohio-k12.help/standards/ in order to improve education in Ohio for all students.
As defined by ODE, learning standards outline what students need to know and be able to do at each grade level. Based on those standards, individual school districts then develop their own curriculum.
Education experts will review the feedback, from which teacher committees will propose changes. The State Board of Education will then vote on the proposed changes. The deadline for comments and input is April 5, 2016.
