Speaker Rosenberger Announces Appointment of Rep. Brenner to Serve as Chair of the House Education Committee
COLUMBUS—Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) today announced that State Representative Andy Brenner (R-Powell) has been appointed to serve as chair of the House Education Committee effective next week. This follows the decision by State Representative Bill Hayes (R-Harrison Township) to step down as chair and fill the role of vice chair of the Education Committee.
“Bill Hayes has been an excellent chairman of the Education Committee during the 131st General Assembly, especially being an integral part of passing House Bill 2, a bipartisan charter school reform bill that recently passed the House and Senate,” Speaker Rosenberger said. “His knowledge and expertise will certainly be missed, however I know that Andy Brenner is up to the task as the new chairman and will continue the state’s efforts to support initiatives that help Ohio students.”
Rep. Brenner, who has served as vice chair of the Education Committee for both the 130th and 131st General Assemblies, is currently serving his third term in the Ohio House of Representatives. He represents the 67th House District, which covers the western portion of Delaware County.
"It is a great honor to be appointed by Speaker Rosenberger to serve as the Education Committee chairman,” Rep. Brenner said. “Having a good education is the building block of a person’s life, and one of the most important functions that our state’s constitution requires of us. I am passionate about making sure that every child in this state has equal access to an excellent public education, and am excited to have this opportunity.”
Representative Brenner previously served as Delaware County recorder from 2005 until 2010. Prior to his election as recorder, he served on the Kingston Township zoning board and as a representative to the Delaware County Regional Planning Commission for Kingston Township. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The Ohio State University in 1993, majoring in marketing and economics. Upon graduation from college he spent 11 years as an entrepreneur in the real estate and mortgage fields.
