State Representative Tim Derickson (R-Oxford) has announced that the State Controlling Board recently approved the release of $84,000 in funding to local fire departments.

According to documents from the Office of Budget and Management, the funding will be used to evaluate cost-savings measures and analyze the current hiring, staffing and turnout gear purchasing practices among the City of Monroe Fire Department, the Liberty Township Fire Department, the Fairfield Township Fire Department, the City of Oxford Fire Department, the Ross Township Fire Department, the West Chester Fire Department, and the City of Hamilton Fire Department.

"I applaud our local fire departments for their ability to serve Butler County residents,” said Rep. Derickson. “This funding will assist in staffing and equipping personnel with the safest gear possible.”

A total of nearly $2.5 million was released from the Local Government Innovation Fund in support of 13 grant and loan projects throughout Ohio.

The Local Government Innovation Fund program was established to provide financial assistance to Ohio’s political subdivisions for planning and implementing projects that are projected to create more efficient and effective service delivery within a specific discipline of government services for one or more entities. The program promotes collaboration, efficiency, mergers, and shared services among local governments. Projects are also expected to facilitate improved business environments and promote community attraction.
