Priority Parents' Bill of Rights Sent to Ohio Governor
COLUMBUS—The Parents’ Bill of Rights, priority legislation for the 135th General Assembly, was recently sent to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine for a signature, announced bill sponsor, State Rep. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron).
The legislation will protect the ability and authority of parents to direct the upbringing, education, health care, and mental health of their minor child by requiring schools to inform parents of any mental, emotional, or physical health-related changes in their child.
“It is critical that parents have a seat at the table when it comes to their children, and this legislation encourages parents and schools to partner together for the wellbeing of our children,” said Swearingen.
The bill as passed also includes measures to provide additional clarification and limit the scope of some of the original bill’s provisions. It will also require school districts to adopt a religious release time policy.
The Parents’ Bill of Rights currently awaits a signature from the Governor.
