Householder Introduces Resolution to Bring Checks & Balances Back to Ohio Government
COLUMBUS – State Representative Larry Householder (R-Glenford) today introduced a resolution that would allow the Ohio General Assembly to modify or terminate any executive order with a simple majority vote from both chambers.
The resolution would place a question on Ohio’s May 2022 primary election ballot for voters to express their support or opposition to bringing checks and balances back to Ohio government. If passed on the special election ballot, the Ohio Constitution would be changed to allow a simple majority vote from State Senators and State Representatives to modify or terminate any executive order implemented by the Governor. The resolution would be veto-proof from the Governor.
“This resolution would exemplify a true checks and balances system in Ohio government, something we haven’t seen in a very long time,” said Householder. “It also ensures a commonsense approach to legislative oversight over actions of the overly-powerful executive branch.”
Householder’s proposed resolution now awaits a resolution number and referral to a House standing committee.
