COLUMBUS- The Ohio House of Representatives approved a state budget this evening that rewards the rich, while continuing to hurt our schools and communities, and denies Medicaid expansion to hundreds of thousands of working poor Ohioans. Following the vote, State Rep. John Patrick Carney (D-Columbus) issued the following statement:

“Our budget process has been hijacked by ideologues.  Evidence based policy is no longer a priority and the people of Ohio no longer have a voice.

“The right wing agenda marches on in the General Assembly.  The Republicans clearly have not received the message from the public and are out of touch with mainstream Ohio.

“This budget is irresponsible, radical and it limits Ohioans access to the American Dream. Republicans cut taxes for the wealthy and protect big oil from paying any impact fees while cutting education funding to our kids and refusing to accept billions of dollars to support healthcare for the poor.

“At the same time they are talking about getting government out of our lives, they continue to tell Ohio women that they know better than doctors what healthcare will serve them best. This budget is not supported by evidence or reason and is taking our state in the wrong direction.”
