COLUMBUS - State Rep. Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) today announced that nearly $29.5M in awards have been announced to help improve housing access in Ohio. The funding is part of the first round of the Welcome Home Ohio program, which is investing a total of $100M in grants over two years to help landbanks purchase, rehabilitate, or build qualifying residential properties for income-eligible Ohioans.

“Homeownership means financial security for families and economic growth for communities,” said Rep. Thomas. “By investing in affordable housing, we are helping families become more independent while spurring job creation in our own neighborhoods. I applaud the Welcome Home program’s investment in Hamilton County.”

The Welcome Home Ohio program was created in partnership with the Ohio General Assembly in the biennium budget bill, House Bill 33. In total, $29,482,200 in Welcome Home Ohio funding will be awarded to entities in 17 counties to support the creation of 263 owner-occupied, single-family homes. So far, approximately $2.7 million in grants have been awarded to Cincinnati based organizations to construct new residential homes and rehabilitate blighted properties.
