State Rep. Kathleen Clyde (D-Kent) released the following statement regarding today’s court ruling that overturned a statewide directive from Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted barring eligible 17-year-olds from voting in Tuesday’s presidential primary:
“I applaud this decision that affirms what the law has said since 1981—that those who will be 18 years old before the November election are eligible to vote in our state’s presidential primary. I want to thank the young people, not only listed on this lawsuit, but across the state that reached out and spoke up when their most fundamental right hung in the balance. Moving forward, I hope we can focus our efforts on making voting easier and more accessible—rather than harder—for all Ohioans.”
