Rep. Carney: Ohio Falls Behind While National Economy Continues to Grow

The state jobs report for Nov. was released today, showing Ohio well-above the national unemployment rate with 427,000 Ohioans still looking for work. The U.S. economy is growing at the fastest pace since late 2011, but Ohio lost 12,000 jobs last month and the state’s unemployment rate continues to trend much higher than last year. State Rep. John Patrick Carney (D-Columbus) released the following statement in response to the news:

“Today’s jobs report is another indication that the Governor’s top-down economic policies aren’t working. While the national economy is growing at a faster pace, our state continues to fall behind. Ohio is trailing the national job growth rate and more Ohioans are looking for work today than at this time last year.

“JobsOhio and Gov. Kasich are insistent that their secret model is working, but the numbers tell a different story. Ohio is clearly falling behind while the rest of the nation recovers.”
