Recent U.S. Supreme Court Verdicts Stifle Progress, Undermines Support For Those Who Need it Most
COLUMBUS– House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today calls the U.S. Supreme Court's recent rulings destroying student loan forgiveness, gutting affirmative action, and legalizing discrimination against members of the LGTBQ+ community a complete and utter setback for equality and full access to opportunity.
“It’s been a disheartening few days for anyone watching the decisions laid down by the U.S. Supreme Court. The court’s conservative majority shamelessly turned their backs on promises this country has made to some of the most marginalized individuals and groups who have been fighting for equality and a better life for decades,” said Leader Russo. “America was founded on the belief that we are not a perfect union and that our work to be a better one would never be complete. Despite these rulings, I still believe in that work, in America, and in the values of liberty and justice for all.”
House Democrats’ people first agenda is built on the pillars of freedom, dignity and opportunity. Meaning, no matter your race, gender or economic status—all Ohioans deserve to have the freedom to be who we are, the dignity of representation, and the opportunity to thrive. The things that bind us together in our communities. Recent SCOTUS rulings fly in the face of those values but will not deter us from our fight for a better future.
