Ohio House Dems stand with Ohio workers, speak out against GOP anti-worker bills
Ohio House Democratic Leader Fred Strahorn (D-Dayton) and Democratic House members from across the state today issued statements in support of the Working People’s Day of Action planned for Saturday, February 24 at the Ohio Statehouse. The Ohio march comes on the heels of the introduction of six Republican-sponsored constitutional amendments to implement so-called “right to work” legislation and other workplace restrictions in the Buckeye State.
“Working people and their families drive our economy and make us one of the most competitive nations in the world,” said Strahorn. “When politicians and special interests restrict our freedoms in the workplace, they limit our American ingenuity and the promise of more economic opportunity and prosperity for families, workers and businesses alike. We stand united against the small but powerful few who would attack workers who bleed, sweat and struggle every day for our state.”
Thousands of people will gather in cities across the nation Saturday at similar rallies to make a stand against anti-worker restrictions ahead of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Feb. 26 hearing of Janus v. AFSCME Council 31 – a case that could put right to work restrictions in place for public sector workers across the nation.
“Instead of revisiting divisive anti-worker policies of the past—policies Ohio voters overwhelmingly rejected—we should focus on commonsense ideas to grow our economy and create good-paying jobs that give working families the opportunity to get ahead and plan for the future,” said state Rep. Brigid Kelly (D-Cincinnati). “By standing up with hardworking men and women, we can build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top."
