Leader Sykes issues statement following the passing of civil rights icon John Lewis

COLUMBUS— House Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) issued a statement today following the passing of civil rights icon John Lewis.

“John Lewis has long been an inspiration to me and his unwavering determination to create a fairer, more equitable society is one I attempt to emulate in the Ohio House.

I had the good fortune to be represented by Congressman Lewis when I lived in Atlanta and the ability to see first-hand what good, fair, sincere representation looks like. 

John Lewis lit the pathway for young leaders to find a place to make a difference and his impact will be forever felt by future generations and we all owe him so much.

We honor his legacy now by continuing to carry his torch.”
