Rep. Latyna M. Humphrey (D-Columbus) today was officially appointed and sworn in to fill the vacancy as state representative to the 26th Ohio House District.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to lift up the voices of the marginalized in communities like mine across the state, for people who need access not only to good paying jobs, but also to quality healthcare, affordable housing, and a justice system that works for them—not simply against them,” said Rep. Humphrey. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to build a better Ohio by restoring the promise of better lives and brighter futures for all of us, not just for some of us.”

Rep. Humphrey outlined her top priorities Wednesday, which include protecting access to quality, affordable healthcare, expanding safe, affordable housing to lower income Ohioans, reforming the state’s broken criminal justice system, and promoting public safety by focusing on accountability and building better community-police relations.

Prior to her appointment to the 26th District seat, Rep. Humphrey spent her career as an author, activist and community relations professional fighting to better her Columbus-area community and uplift the voices of Black and Brown Ohioans.

Most recently, she worked for the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas and formerly worked as Outreach Coordinator for the Franklin County Auditor’s Office. She is the most recent past president of the Central Ohio Young Black Democrats.

The 26th House District includes all or parts of Bexley, Columbus, Groveport, Reynoldsburg, and Whitehall.
