Following FirstEnergy Executive Indictments, Ohio Continues to Lack Accountability on Political Corruption
COLUMBUS – Ohio House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today released the following statement after two former FirstEnergy executives were indicted in connection with the House Bill (HB) 6 nuclear bailout scandal:
“The federal indictments of these FirstEnergy executives are welcomed news, but the cost of corruption from the House Bill 6 scandal continues to plague every-day Ohioans and must be stopped once and for all,” said Leader Russo. “It is well documented how FirstEnergy colluded with state leaders to perpetuate the largest political bribery and money laundering scheme in Ohio history. Despite several convictions and broad public support to repeal and refund many provisions in HB 6, the people of Ohio are still forecasted to pay more than $1B dollars in subsidies by 2030. The efforts to end the cost of corruption from this scandal and the investigation to bring all those involved to justice must continue no matter where the trail leads.”
With the start of the new General Assembly, House Democrats will continue the fight at the Statehouse aimed at weeding out corruption, strengthening ethics, and correcting wrongs brought to light in the HB 6 scandal that remain a threat to Ohio’s government.
