Dem Lawmakers Celebrate Amazon Jobs Announcement
Ohio House Democratic Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) and other Democratic lawmakers today issued a statement following Amazon’s announcement of more than 1500 jobs coming to Akron.
“At the statehouse and beyond, Democrats have been dedicated to finding opportunities like these to increase the number of good paying jobs in Ohio and our local communities.” said Rep. Sykes. “Today’s announcement with Amazon is a step in the right direction as we continue to work to restore the Ohio Promise in Akron and create an economy that works for everyone.”
“The news of Amazon’s plans to build a new facility in west Akron is an exciting opportunity for Summit County,” said state Sen. Vernon Sykes (D-Akron). “This is why the successes we had in the transportation budget were so vital. These are quality jobs with quality pay that might not have come here if not for our commitment to invest and reinvigorate our infrastructure network. Improving our roads and bridges is a critical economic development tool, and I’m pleased we are beginning to see those investments payoff.”
“I am truly pleased to have such great economic development coming to the 35th District,” said Rep. Tavia Galonski(D-Akron). “Whether it’s family sustaining wages or benefits which keep Ohioans working, this is a win for the Summit County area. I am particularly happy that the workers in Barberton and Akron will specifically benefit.
